The Giver
In a perfect world, there is no violence, no danger, no worries and also, no nothing. No one feels anything bad, but also nothing pleasant. Memories do not exist in the hopes of taking away pain, but at the same time no good memories exist either. How does one deal that is not the same as everyone else and can have feelings? In this utopian world, Jonas is given the power to realize the cost of perfection.
Nothing but the Truth
Everyday in a local high school, everyone respectfully and patriotically stands at attention in silence and listens to the National Anthem. On a unique day, for whatever reason, a ninth grade student starts to hum along with the National Anthem. Because of the violation of “silent respectful attention,” the teacher sends him out of class. What happens after grows into a town wide controversy about who is right and what the consequences of personal choice can bring.
My Brother Sam is Dead
The idea of independence and freedom can be very difficult to decide on when one is young. During the War of Independence in the United States, Tim is at the point in his life when he has to decide to either conform to his father’s beliefs of loyalty to the British government, or figure out his own personal values. His brother Sam is an inspiration to him, but adds to his confusion as his brother joins up with the rebel forces that want independence for the colonies. As the war continues, Tim grows-up and understands the consequences of life.
